In this episode we delve into the astonishing, adrenaline-fueled life of Colton Harris-Moore, infamously known as the "Barefoot Bandit." From his less than idyllic childhood and rocky homelife on Camano Island of Washington state to becoming a modern-day folk hero to some, and a juvenile con-artist skilled at escaping the consequences of his crimes to many others, Colton's story is one for the books. We follow his jaw-dropping crime spree involving stolen cars, boats, and even planes! How did a teenage runaway, with no formal flight training, manage to elude law enforcement after committing numerous crimes on Orcas Island and elsewhere in the Pacific Northwest, fly across state lines, and eventually flee the US altogether to evade capture for so long?
We discuss his many infamous, and (literal) barefoot getaways, the media frenzy surrounding him, and the multiple shocking crash landings prior to his capture. He evaded authorities on both continental, and tropical, international islands from the San Juan Islands of the Puget Sound to the more densely populated Abaco, on to Eleuthra, and the pink sand beaches of Harbour Island. For true crime fanatics this episode has it all—daring escapes, FBI manhunts, and even a dramatic boat chase as Colton continued his criminal antics and island-hopping ways in the Bahamas!
This week we introduced you to our pod besties from Ye Olde Crime - where Lindsay & Madison discuss the funny, strange, and obscure crimes of yesteryear!
